THE POWER OF GRATITUDE AND AFFIRMATION
Both gratitude and affirmations can be used to improve one’s mood and outlook on life. Gratitude has been shown to increase happiness and well-being, while affirmations can help change negative thinking patterns and create a more positive mindset.
Gratitude Practice
To practice gratitude, simply take some time each day to think about things you are thankful for. This could be anything from your health to your family and friends, or even just the roof over your head. Expressing gratitude can also be helpful. I suggest keeping a journal in which you can write at least 3 experiences, moments, or people in which you identify an experience of joy, delight, surprise, or wonder in the experience.
What are Affirmations?
Affirmations, on the other hand, are statements that you repeat to yourself either out loud or in your head. These statements can be about something you wish to change or improve in your life. For example, if you are trying to reduce anxiety you might say something like “I am calm and at peace.” Repeating affirmations can help change the way you think about yourself and lead to improved mood and increased motivation.
How to Express Gratitude and Create Affirmations
When you combine affirmations with gratitude, you create a powerful tool for self-improvement and personal growth.
1. Make a list of things you are grateful for.
2. Write out your affirmations.
Once you have a list of things you are grateful for, use these as the basis for writing out affirmations about yourself and your life. For example, if you are grateful for your health, you could write an affirmation such as “I am healthy and whole” or “I am surrounded by good health and wellbeing”. Repeat your affirmations regularly.
To make the most of your affirmations, it is important to repeat them on a regular basis–perhaps first thing in the morning, last thing at night and throughout the day whenever you need a boost of positive energy.
3. Visualize your affirmations coming true.
When you repeat your affirmations, imagine them coming true in your life. For example, if you are repeating an affirmation such as “I am healthy and whole”, picture yourself surrounded by good health and well-being.
4. Feel the emotions of your affirmations.
If you are repeating an affirmation such as “I am loved and supported by those around me”, reach out to feel the love and support of others and positive emotions that come with achieving your goals.
5. Be patient with yourself.
It may take some time for you to start seeing and feeling the results. Once you keep at the practice, you will eventually notice a change in your thinking and in your life.
Both gratitude and affirmations are powerful tools that can help improve your mental health and overall well-being. Try incorporating both into your daily routine to see the greatest benefits.
